Restorative justice case studies

Sister meets driver who killed her brother

Many people would keep the deceased’s family and offender separate.  This could leave questions unanswered, shame unexplored and bitterness left to cause stress and even physical symptoms.  Restorative justice offers the opportunity for understanding and to put the harm in perspective.

Conference with 40 people set in a marquee on open ground in Feltham estate. Commissioned by Places for People, one of the largest property management companies in the UK.  Preparation included a letter drop to each of the 159 homes and door-to-door visits.

Facts

This neighbour dispute, in the North East, had gone on for 12 months prior to using the Restorative approach to try and make things better.

Facts

This case involved two elderly couples in the South East who lived next door to each other and the grumbles had rumbled on and off since August 2006.

Facts

In the South East in April 2008 a dispute between next door neighbours, Tracey and Paul began, principally about the use of children’s trampolines.  Tracey alleged that her neighbour’s children, aged 6 and 7, had broken her own child’s trampoline and had caused a nuisance by deliberately jumping up and down on the trampoline to look into her windows.
